November 2007
At the November Facilities Committee Meeting the Committee discussed the Web-based Facilities Feedback Site, Committee voted to request the Board of Directors allocate $200 to fund the site for the first year.
The Committee listened to presentation by Shade Structures. Options for fabric and designs were presented and discussed. The Facilities Committee voted unanimously not to proceed with these options as they are extremely costly and only have a 10 years lifetime.
North & South Lake Bridge will be under repair from December 3rd. to December 13th.
The North Lake Bridge will be kept open and the South Lake Bridge will be closed during restoration.
Tom Carmody has resigned from the Facilities Committee. The Facilities Committee wishes to thank Tom for all his hard work and dedication while he was a member. It was a pleasure working with Tom.
October 2007
At the October Facilities Committee Meeting Frank Vodhanel gave a presentation of his proposed WVA facilities web site and it was reviewed by the Committee. The cost would be approximately $15.00 per month and would allow WVA to put survey questions on the WVA website. Residents could provide input, comments and questions concerning community issues. Frank will do further work on this project.
Also, the Committee reviewed shade structure replacement options using a shade material system. Don Perdue will arrange to have a company representative attend the November meeting to present more details concerning these replacement shade covers. It has been noted that some of our existing shade covers are in very bad shape.
Joe Pagan announced to the Committee that he will be retiring from WVA on May 2008 after 28 years of service. All members of the Committee expressed their sadness that Joe will be leaving and how wonderful it has been working with him. Each of us has appreciated our long and productive association with Joe.
September 2007
At the September meeting, the Facilities Committee discussed the visual improvements for the North Lake Tennis Courts. Paseo concerns on Caraway, Pinewood and Shorebird areas, and adding shade covers to existing structures and/or other materials that can be used such as shade sail.
The Board of Directors approved the purchase of Salt Chlorination System for Woodflower pool, spa and wader. Also, Staff is looking into a detailed analysis of need for s Sprinkler Park. Some Board members and Joe Pagan will meet to discuss specs, costs and general prices.
August 2007
At the August meeting Joe Pagan presented information for a year-round sprinkler park at Blue Lake, Woodflower, or Wintermist. The Facilities committee unanimously rejected the sprinklers park idea based mainly on the high estimated cost among other important reasons.
Woodflower salt chlorination system is successful after three months. There has been great residential feedback. The system is low maintenance, though the staff is still gathering data before further investment is made.
The installation of the Springacre Park Par Course equipment is completed. The park opened to the Woodbridge residents on August 17.
Staff is reviewing vendors’ products on different patio covers. The committee suggested a Shade Sail as an alternate to solid roof coverings on patio covers.
June 2007
At the June Committee meeting, the Facilities Committee unanimously elected Frank Vodhanel as the new Chairman and Kay Phillies as the new Vice-Chairman. The members of the Facilities Committee thanked outgoing Chairman Don Perdue for his six (6) years of outstanding service to the Facilities Committee. Don Davis will remain as the Board Liaison to the Facilities Committee for another year.
The renovation improvements to the North Lake Beach Club have been completed. However, the lighting at the facility is still being worked on in addition to improving the “milky” water quality.
Also, improving the lighting at the volleyball courts will have to wait due to a lack of funds in this year’s budget.
In regard to the handicapped access at North Lake Tennis Club, PAO will review the feasibility of ramp improvements when they study improvements for the entry area.
Furthermore, a new commercial Salt Chlorination system is being tested at Woodflower Pool for 90 days. Several favorable e-mails from residents have been received.

May 2007
At the May meeting, a WVA resident addressed the Facilities Committee with a personal request to modify the North Lake Tennis Club to allow wheelchair access to the courts via the main gate for her relative who uses a wheelchair. Currently, the Board has contracted with an architectural firm to look at options for extreme remodel and patio cover revisions. During this review, they will review access to the building and courts.
The Committee discussed the approved Springacre Park Par Course equipment and the on-line Tennis Courts Reservations System for residents. Also, the South Lake Beach Club Volleyball Court Lights are still under review.
The Facilities Committee members inspected and submitted their assigned quadrant improvement recommendations for the 2008 Budget.
March 2007
At the March meeting, the Committee reviewed the proposal and projected cost for the par exercise course at Springacre Park. The Committee approved of the proposal. The Recreation Committee will provide additional comments and recommendations to the Board of Directors.
The Board of Directors directed Staff to hire an outside contractor to design a new entry for the North lake Tennis Court.
Staff will also continue to monitor and seek a solution to the fire pit smoke problem at North lake Beach Club and Firwood Park.
Additionally, Staff will continue cleaning the sand at the North Lake Beach Club to improve water clarity.
A resident came before the Committee and expressed concern for the condition of the sand and poor lighting at the South Lake volleyball courts.
February, 2007
Staff discussed various matters regarding facility renovations. It was announced that the Board of Directors would tour eight (8) facilities on Saturday, March 3rd to view existing wood deterioration concerns. Also, May 21st was announced as the completion date for the renovation project at North Lake Beach Club. Woodflower Pool was closed on February 21st for deck resurfacing. It is scheduled to reopen on March 10th as long as the weather is permitting.
The Board of Directors approved additional repairs for the existing slides at the lagoons. The slides at both lagoons will be extended into the water by approximately 24 inches. The same fiberglass material will be used.
The Committee also discussed the existing problems caused by the cormorants at the North Lake Bridge.
In regard to water issues, Staff is still working on different measures on water clarity at North Lake Lagoon. Staff is also examining the pros and cons of using saline water system versus liquid chlorine in the pools.
The Committee also discussed the unfortunate vandalism that occurred on the Wintermist Basketball Court when a large fire burned the windscreen and trees.
January 2007
Staff presented a request by some residents who requested that the Bocce Ball surface be changed. After some discussion, the Committee decided to keep the existing surface.
The Committee heard from staff that added security will be hired at the Beach Clubs at night during the summer. The Association hopes that this added security will cut down the smoke from burning material in the fire pits.
Staff also discussed the possibility of removing the overhead structure at Pebblewood Shuffle Board courts because of the major repairs that it needed.
Furthermore, there was discussion about hiring a firm to evaluate the condition of Stone Creek Swim Club, Fallbrook Pool, North Lake Tennis Club, and Firwood Pool.
