May 2010
The Board of Directors requested the Recreation Committee to conduct a Global Pool Hours Study. The Committee briefly discussed the first tour of the north facilities which was on May 1, 2010. The Committee set up the second part of the tour to visit the south facilities on July 17, 2010.
Staff informed the Recreation Committee a new BBQ was ordered for the Firwood pool, which was noted to be missing on the May 1, 2010 tour of the north facilities.
Staff informed the Recreation Committee of the Board’s decision to temporarily change the Shorebird hours to the proposed hours Sunday to Thursday 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday 5:00 a.m. to Midnight.
The Recreation Committee was informed that staff met with three park vendors to obtain three bids for the Wildwood playground equipment. All vendors recommended keeping the existing sand. The vendors plan to present a design to the Committee at the next meeting.
Staff distributed a list of resident requests for the proposed improvements for Fallbrook park.
The Recreation Committee unanimously voted to keep Tom Duffy and Linda Ferguson as Co-Chairperson of the Recreation Committee.

April 2010
The Recreation Committee covered the following items at the April meeting:

The Committee viewed emails submitted to WVA and discussed the new proposed hours regarding the Shorebird Pool facility.
After much discussion, the Recreation Committee approved a recommendation to change the Shorebird pool hours from a 24 hour facility to Sunday through Thursday 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.
The Board of Directors requested that the Recreation Committee conduct a Global Pool Hours Study. The Recreation Committee discussed this tour and decided to break it up into two parts. The first tour will be on Saturday, May 1st of the north pool facilities
The Recreation Committee is moving forward with the Wildwood playground equipment replacement project. Staff will be working with some residents and vendors to obtain three bids.
Executive Director Kevin Chudy and Director Bill Mavity updated the Committee on the proposed Fallbrook project and the forum on April 28, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center. Staff encouraged the Committee members and all residents to attend.

March 2010
The Recreation Committee did not meet in March.


February 2010
The Recreation Committee covered the following issues at the February meeting:

The Committee viewed emails received over the past 3 months concerning the Shorebird Pool Hours. The Committee will consider and make a recommendation to the Board of Directors at the March meeting.
The Committee will tour all pool facilities in April.
Bids are being considered on the replacement of play equipment at Wildwood Park.
The Committee approved the ice machine at the South Lake Tennis Center. It will go to the Finance Committee for approval at the March meeting and then to the Board of Directors for final approval.
Staff informed the Committee of upcoming recreation events.

January 2010
The Recreation Committee covered the following issues at the January meeting:
Staff informed the Committee that letters were sent to the homes surrounding Shorebird Pool concerning modifying the pool hours. Staff stated they had received 11 emails concerning this issue, which will be presented to the Committee at the March meeting.
The Committee will tour all pool facilities in April, and make recommendations to the Board of Directors if any facilities warrant a change of hours.
Staff presented a cost analysis showing how much could be saved by combining the January and February, and the March and April issue of the Reflections newsletter. The Committee voted unanimously to recommend to the Board of Directors to print 10 issues in 2011.
Plans are underway and vendors have been notified about replacing the play equipment at Wildwood Park.
