MEETINGS/RECREATION COMMITTEE - 2008
     
November, 2008
The Recreation Committee covered the following issues at the November meeting:
  Staff informed the Committee about the great turnout we had for the Comedy Night and the Holiday Craft Show. Both events sold out.
  The newest version of the Spin and Splash has been installed at Blue Lake Pool and is working.
  The Committee continued to discuss different options for the Lagoons.
  Staff stated that letters will be going out in January to the residents who might be affected if lights are installed at the North Lake Volleyball courts. The Association plans to hear from everyone who has a concern.
  Next summer the Association will enforce all children who are not toilet trained to make sure they have rubber pants or a swim diaper on. If the child does not they will be asked to please remove their child from the water.
  Finally, Bob Davis who has served the community on the Recreation Committee resigned after 25 years. We all wish him well.

October, 2008
The Recreation Committee covered the following issues at the October meeting:
     The Board of Directors voted to put in the 2009 budget lights at the North Lake volleyball courts. Staff will send a letter to the maintenance association, as well as letters to the individual homeowners who live by the courts for their feedback.
     The Spin and Splash toy has been down, but staff reported that a new one is being shipped to us by the end of the month.
     Staff reported that they were still looking at alternative solutions for the North Lake Lagoon water problem.

September, 2008
The Recreation Committee covered the following issues at the September meeting:

  The Committee heard from a resident who had gathered 60 names on a petition to install lights at the North Lake volleyball courts. The Committee voted unanimously to send it forward to the Board of Directors.
  Staff presented an update on the Spin & Splash toy at Bluelake Pool. The toy has broken down many times and the Association has contacted the manufacturer and they have stated they are working on a new system for us, but it may not be ready for a few months to test.
  Staff informed the Committee of two dates to remember: October 24th is Comedy Night and the Arts and Craft Show is scheduled for Friday, November 14th and Saturday, November 15th.

August, 2008
A t the August Recreation Committee meeting, the Committee discussed the following issues:
     A resident talked to the Committee about installing lights at the North Lake volleyball courts. She stated that there are two volleyball sites on the south side and none on the north side. The Committee asked her to get a petition from other residents who would be interested in installing lights.
     The last concert on the lake was scheduled for Saturday, September 6th at 5:00 p.m.
Staff informed the Committee that we are still having issues with the clarity of the water at the Lagoons. Both lagoon deep ends have been closed almost every day this summer due to cloudiness of the water. The Committee asked staff to look into the options of filling the deep end with sand or adding another rock slide in that area. Staff will report back to the Committee as they receive further information.

July, 2008
The Recreation Committee covered the following issues at the July meeting:

  The Committee met with residents from the Wildwood Park area who are requesting that the existing playground be moved to the larger volleyball court area. The Committee later discussed this issue at their regular meeting and voted to keep the playground equipment where it is.

  Staff reported that the diving boards at Bluelake and Stonecreek Pool are back in place.
  The Spin and Splash toy was put in the wader at Bluelake Pool and staff will wait for comments from the residents.
  The Committee will come back next month on any items they would like to see in the 2009 budget.

June, 2008

  The Blue Lake Swim Club water apparatus unit will be installed in early July
  Final preparations are underway for The 4th of July, 5/10K run, parade and carnival. The WVA expects a large turn out
  Fran Bakst made a motion to reaffirm the recreation committee’s prior position on erecting a stage for the WVA Concert Series. The motion was seconded by Linda Ferguson. No one was opposed.

May, 2008
The Recreation Committee did not meet in May.

April, 2008
The Recreation Committee covered the following issues at the April meeting:
Staff informed the Committee that the Tennis Online Program was running smoothly. We had over 182 hits to the site.
     The Association will be testing a new Spin & Splash Water Fountain at no cost to be installed at the Blue Lake Swim Club wader. The installation of the Spin & Splash will be up and running by mid June.
     Staff informed the Committee that all the Concerts On The Lake are booked for the summer. The Committee again supported the building of a stage at the site.March, 2008
The Recreation Committee discussed the new online tennis program, and were given a demonstration on how it worked.
     Staff once again went to Canyon Lakes Homeowners Association to check out their spin and splash fountain that was installed in their wader, and reported that it still was not working.
     The summer concert series was discussed with the first concert coming in June, and a big Patriotic concert on July 5th. Both concerts will start at 5:30 p.m.

February, 2008
The Recreation Committee covered the following issues at the February meeting:
The Committee discussed the online tennis reservations; staff is waiting for a new laptop and program software
Staff is still looking into the possibility of putting a sprinkler fountain in the wader at Bluelake Pool. Vendors from Miracle Play Equipment came out and will submit a bid on cost and installation.
Comedy Night sold out last month with 150 residents and guests enjoying the
show.
Staff is planning the summer concert series. The Association is planning a Patriotic concert on July 5th with a 45-piece band.

January, 2008

The Recreation Committee did not have a meeting in January due to the lack of quorum
