November 2009
Several homeowners were present to voice disapproval of a request to install lights at Timber Run Tennis Courts. The Committee determined that the estimated cost of $42,000 was too high and was concerned about the impact on neighbors. The Committee decided not to recommend the installation of lights at Timber Run.
     Also reviewed at the Committee Meeting:
Staff stated that a letter is going to be sent out to the homes surrounding Shorebird Pool regarding the possible change of pool hours. There will also be an article in the Reflections newsletter.
Comedy Night was a success with approximately 150 in attendance. We are looking into the addition of a 4th show for 2010.
There were 77 booths at the Holiday Craft Show. The event was successful and staff is looking into ways to draw a larger attendance
Santa visits are sold out. The Snow Event has had little response and staff will be re-evaluating this event for next year. Tickets are still available for the Rose Parade.
The Board asked the Committee to look into all facilities to see if changes need to be made regarding the hours of operation. The Committee determined that the annual spring inspection would be a great time to evaluate this request.

October 2009
The Recreation Committee covered the following issues at the October meeting:

The Committee listened to additional testimony from a resident requesting that the Shorebird Pool be closed at 10:00 p.m. instead of being a 24 hour facility. The Committee decided to send a letter to the surrounding residents who live by the pool in hopes that we can get further input on this matter since the pool will not reopen until April.
The Costs for adding lights to the Timber Run tennis courts was presented to the Committee and the cost would be approximately $41,000. The Committee will consider this issue again at the November meeting.
Staff updated the Committee on the fall and holiday events.

September 2009
The Recreation Committee covered the following issues at the September meeting:
Residents presented a petition to the Committee requesting lights be added to the Timber Run Tennis Courts. After much discussion, the Committee requested that staff investigate costs to bring an electrical panel to the courts. Also, staff was instructed to check with the Tennis Pro to see if some tennis lessons could be moved from South Lake Tennis Center to Timber Run Courts. Staff will bring more information back at the November meeting.
The Committee also listened to a resident who would like to see the hours at Shorebird Pool be changed. Last month, the Committee asked him to go to his Maintenance Association and see how they feel on the matter and report back. He stated that the Maintenance Association has taken a neutral stance on the matter. The Committee voted to have staff review facility usage from June to October 1st checking on the hours from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on usage at those times. They also recommended having more patrols cover the facilities, including Shorebird, to reduce noise nuisances.

August 2009

The Recreation Committee covered the following issues at the August meeting:
The Committee discussed the issue of changing Shorebird Pool from a 24-hour facility to close at 10:00 p.m. This topic will be discussed again at the September meeting.
Residents addressed the committee about adding lights to the Timber Run Tennis Courts. The Committee will readdress the issue at the September meeting.
Staff discussed budget items to be put into the 2010 budget.

July 2009

The Recreation Committee covered the following issues at the July meeting:
It was reported to the Committee that the staff did an excellent job at this year’s 4th of July festivities. Wristband sales were up almost 500 over last year. The run and parade attracted many people and the firework show was once again a big success.
Summer concerts are attracting the biggest crowds ever. Four concerts remain.
Staff discussed budget items to be included in the 2010 budget.
Staff informed the Committee that we have put a lap lane at Bluelake Swim club during the day for lap swimmers to be able to get in their workouts throughout the day during free swim.

 

June 2009
The Recreation Committee covered the following issues at the June meeting:
The Committee heard from staff that all the summer activities are set to start on Friday, June 19th.
The first summer concert is set for June 27th at 6:00 p.m. with the Oreo Divas set to perform.
Staff informed the Committee that all Lifeguards and Facility Inspectors are ready to enforce the swim diaper rule.
Residents addressed the staff about getting the Wildwood playground updated. Staff informed the Committee Wildwood is due to be replaced in our reserve study for 2010. Staff also reported that Bluejay Park was also in need of replacing, but that is scheduled in the reserve study for 2013
Comedy Night is July 24th and at this time, we have 90 tickets sold out of 175.

March 2009
.Staff informed the Committee that the Spin and Splash sprinkler toy at the Blue Lake Swim Club may have to be removed. The Orange County Health Department does not permit any water toys in Wading Pools.
The Board of Directors rejected the idea of Lights at the North Lake Volleyball Courts. Staff is looking into alternative locations.
The Committee reviewed a proposed Fire pit usage rule at the Beach Clubs. The Committee voted to approve the proposed rule and sent it to the Board of Directors for review and comments.
The Committee discussed the North Lake Lagoon water clarity issue and prefers to reduce the depth of the Lagoon to improve water clarity.
Staff is looking into modifying the existing electrical at the North Lake to allow musical groups additional electrical capacity to improve the sound quality for the Concerts on the Lakes.

February 2009
The Recreation Committee covered the following issues at the February meeting:
Staff informed the Committee that the Association is working closely with the Health Department on whether the Spin and Splash is allowed at the Blue Lake Swim Club
A group of residents addressed the Committee concerning the proposed lights at the North Lake Beach Club. The Committee listened to both sides against and for the proposed lights, and made a recommendation to the Board of Directors to approve the lights, but with the lights turning off at 8:30 p.m.
The Committee reviewed the modified Fire pit usage rule. The Committee voted to approve the new rule and sent it to the Board of Directors for final approval
The Committee discussed the North Lake Lagoon water clarity issue and wants to raise the area from 5 feet to 3 feet.

January 2009

The Recreation Committee covered the following issues at the January meeting:
The Bluelake Sprinkler toy is being check out by the Health Department on January 27th on whether it meets the health codes.
The Committee made a motion to send letters to the surrounding residents who might be affected by the proposal to install lights at the North Lake Volleyball courts. The letter will invite all who have a concern to come to the February and March meetings to address the Committee.
